Cécile de Morrée currently works as a postdoctoctoral researcher at Utrecht University. She works on Middle Dutch and Middle French performative literature and song culture, particularly on festive culture, mock songs and gender roles.
Cécile published an in-depth study of the genesis, organisation and use of vernacular religious song manuscripts. She demonstrated that song collections are organized according to cyclical time schemes that may be related to their intended use. Since songs are sounds as well as texts, Cécile also works on the sensory experiences involved in devotional culture and on the interaction between songs and theirs sonic environments.
Besides her professional interest in song culture, Cécile is an enthusiastic singer herself, who enjoys illustrating her presentations with short song performances.
